KATHERINE CRIM

Raised by self-employed artists Melva and Joseph Gillispie, Katherine was given ample opportunity to study the arts. She attended many art camps at Cedar lakes as well as workshops and apprenticeships. She received the Fine Art Scholarship and attended Fairmont State College. She graduated in 1990 with a bachelor's degree in Art and Gifted Education. While at Fairmont State, she entered and placed in many student exhibition and competitions. She received the Outstanding Senior Art Student Award as well as academic honors.

Furthering her art experience, Katherine is pursuing her masters at West Virginia University and continues to attend workshops and classes with master painters. She has entered and won several ribbons at the Stonewall Jackson Jubilee Art Exhibition. In 1999 she joined the West Virginia Watercolor Society. By 2001 Katherine had become one of the youngest members to gain signature status. Her work has been accepted and shown in three major WVWS juried exhibitions. She was one of five members who planned a plein air painting trip to Europe in September 2001. Rescheduling since 9/11 has difficult, but she plans to go in June 2003.

The West Virginia High Technology Consortium in Fairmont, WV hosted Katherine's first major one-person show in the summer of 2002. A thirty-two exhibit was exquisitely matted and framed. The show was a narrative of her garden experiences and included written passages as well. The reception was awesome!

Teaching in Harrison County public schools has been rewarding for her. Many of her students are challenged with the Advanced Placement Studio Art course and have received college credit for the portfolios developed under her instruction. Summers and holidays are spent painting, being a mother and helping manage the Art by Crim gallery.

Katherine accepts commissions in watercolor, acrylic, and oil sticks.
