What is Giclée?

Giclée (zhe'-clay) a French verb for "spurt of ink"—is an advanced printmaking process for creating high-quality reporductions of fine art. The attainable quality of Giclée printmaking makes the reproduction virtually indistinguishable from the original. Museum-quality Giclée fine art reproductions are recognized as "the next best thing" to owning th original and can be found in the world's finest museums and art galleries

How does Giclée differ from a traditional print?

Giclée printmaking derives its quality from seemingly "dot-less" imaging technology. This differs from traditional art prints relying on commercial printing screen patterns (dots) to reproduce full-range color. Traditional art prints are typically restricted to papers that vary widely from the original artwork— expecially when reprodcuing oil on canvas. The Giclée process enables repoduction on virtually the same media as the original artwork resulting in a hightly accurate reproduction with greater image longevity.

Most prints can fade over time, what about Giclée?

Based on independent research and testing, there are different dsplay life ratings for various processes and materials being used in Giclée printmaking. Because we use pigment inks and acid-free media exclusively, our Giclée prints have an image permancence rating of greater than 100 years*. Archival ratings have been provided to the fine art industry to ensure image permancence for Giclée printmaking.

What guarantee is there?

Every Giclée reproduction we represent is backed by a Certificate of Authenticity. It certifies exactly what materials and processes were used to make the fine art reporduction and hence its image permanence rating. It is your assurance of buying a museum-quality fine art reprodution.

* Requires conservation glass for fine art paper or liquid laminate for canvas media.
